What Other symptoms Can be Connected To A Mind-Body Disconnect?
There is a hugely long list of potential possibilities that are too numerous and ever changing to list, however there are three potential scenarios that may indicate a mind-body disconnect:
- You have new symptoms of illness and seek medical advice to determine a diagnosis. The results are inconclusive, elusive or non-existent and you’ve been given a homogenous prescription and told to ‘manage it’.
- You have no specific physical symptoms of illness, but have noticed an uncomfortable shift in your emotions that are not typically ‘you’, this may manifest in things such as bouts of anger or increased frustration, low mood, sadness, low energy, a lack of joy or boredom.
- You have a medically diagnosed illness or condition that worsens during times of anxiety or stress.
Common Treatments For Undiagnosed Symptoms of Illness
To some degree this depends on where you live. The medical systems in some countries will investigate more thoroughly and ask questions around what was happening before things changed, or what does your life and routine look like right now? The majority of medical providers don’t have the resource or time to delve this thoroughly with patients being given something to dull the pain, physical or emotional, most commonly with a pain medication or anti-depressant. Dulling the symptoms helps many to carry on, but rarely thrive as they accept this new ‘normal’. For some this starts their personal journey to find answers in other places such as Mind-Body therapy.
