Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS)

What Is Postural Tachycardia Syndrome?

More commonly known as PoTs, this condition is when your heart rate increases quickly after lying down or getting up as your body struggles to coordinate blood vessel construction and heart rate. Symptoms can come and go.

What Are The Symptoms of PoTS?

Some symptoms associated with PoTS include:

  • Lightheadedness or dizziness
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fainting
  • Nausea
  • Chest pain
  • Increased heart rate
  • Stomach and digestive issues
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Sleeping problems
  • Brain fog

Common Treatments For PoTS

There is no standardised treatment for PoTS with each case being unique. Some find avoiding the triggers, an adjustment in lifestyle, diet and exercise helpful. Sometimes medications are prescribed such as steroids or antidepressants.

Can I Recover From PoTS?

Research for the causes of PoTS is still ongoing and a clear path to recovery is rarely available for those with this syndrome. Many lines of research discuss the involvement of the sympathetic nervous system, responsible for our ‘fight and flight’ response, activated when the body feels under attack or threat. The MBR programme works with this nervous system, and as a result, clients with PoTS have experienced a dramatic shift or loss of symptoms after completing this mind-body therapy.

Please always consult a healthcare professional about any health concerns, before getting in touch.
