What is ME/CFS?

Myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), also called chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), is a long-term condition that causes extreme tiredness amongst other life changing symptoms. Diagnosis is often the process of elimination as there are no specific tests that provide a conclusive result. It can affect people of any age/gender but is more common in women. There has been a rise in the cases of ME/CFS since the Covid-19 outbreak with similarities to the Long-Covid diagnosis been researched as there is a commonality amongst the symptoms.

What Are The Symptoms of ME/CFS?

Some of the symptoms associated with ME/CFS are:

  • Extreme exhaustion and tiredness
  • Brainfog or poor concentration
  • Insomnia
  • Unrefreshing Sleep
  • Muscle aches
  • Temperature fluctuations
  • Post External Malaise (PES) – Even the mildest activity can take weeks to recover from

Common Treatments For ME/CFS

There is no cure for ME/CFS, just the management of symptoms through pain medications, sleeping tablets or tips on energy management. Some therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (CBT) are also recommended.

Can I Recover From ME/CFS?

Yes. The development of the MindBody Reconnect programme was initially developed to specifically help those an ME/CFS diagnosis. There are a vast number of case studies from those who had this diagnosis, that are now living symptom free.
