What is Burnout?

Burnout has been described by The World Health Organisation (WHO) as an ‘occupational phenomenon’. It is a syndrome that can have multiple physical, emotional and mental symptoms as a result of long term, often stressful and excessively demanding work/life balance.

What Are The Symptoms of Burnout?

Symptoms associated with Burnout include:

  • Difficulty concentrating or focusing
  • Physical and Mental Exhaustion
  • Headaches and Joint Pain
  • Insomnia
  • Feel detached, overwhelmed, demotivated and hopeless
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Irritable, short-tempered, procrastinating

Common Treatments For Burnout

As Burnout is often the result of life circumstances, common advice includes:

  • Practicing mindfulness
  • Eating healthily
  • Find time for exercise, recreation and things you enjoy
  • Set clear boundaries against what you can and can’t do, especially in the workplace

Can I Recover From Burnout?

Burnout is often the result of multiple factors. Understanding and recognising these factors and how to deal with them in a way that prevents symptoms being triggered is possible. This is a process you will be guided through in my coaching sessions. As you apply the tools and information presented, you will be equipped to navigate the many situations that may be behind the symptoms of Burnout and return to a happier, healthier condition!
